Historical map data © by HGIS Germany (Andreas Kunz, Leonhard Dietze). Created for TransVis
Studio NAND

This map is part of a research project initiated and supervised by Tom Cheesman at Swansea University in collaboration with Kevin Flanagan and Studio NAND. Its data is nowhere near complete, but a starting point for the creation of a global map of Shakespeare’s influence in the world.

TransVis collects, digitises, analyses and compares translations and variations of literary works. In an initial prototype named VVV (»Version Variation Visualisation«), we have proposed analysis methods, interfaces and visualization tools to explore 37 translations of Shakespeare’s Othello into German with more works translated into other languages to come.

This map gives an overview about when and where these versions have been written, rewritten and published. Click on each version to learn more about it.
